A short trek with good
mountain views and less uphill walking than most treks. Many camping
groups use this route but not many individual trekkers.
This is an easy, short trek that starts near Pokhara and offers good
mountain views. It gained its name because Prince Charles and an
entourage of 90 mguests, camp followers and staff trekked here. This
trek has also seen the likes of such luminaries as Mike Jagger. The
route is not a popular one, so you will see few other trekkers, but
this also means that the lodge facilities are mediocre.
It is about 5 km from Pokhara by drive to Bijayapor Army camp just
east of the Bijayapur river . The starting point for the trek is not
obvious or marked, but it’s about 100m past the Army Camp.
To the north of Pokhara there is the, so called, Royal trek. This
four day trek follows the ridged above Pokhara’s second largest lake
, Begnas Tal. No tea houses are available so groups need to be
self-sufficient.
Views of Annapurna’s and back to Pokhara are worthwhile from the
ridged top and a number of interesting Gurung villages are visited
on the way. This is a particularly good route during the colder
winter months.
