The event organized by Nepal Government at the request of Lumbini Development Trust will be inaugurated on 14th January 2012 and will be celebrated with various kinds of programmes throughout the year round. China plans to help Nepal develop Buddha’s birthplace at Lumbini Reuters, Jun 16, 2011 Kathmandu, Nepal -- A Chinese-backed foundation and Nepal’s government plan to transform Lord Buddha’s birthplace in southern Nepal into a magnet for Buddhists in the same way as Mecca is to Muslims and the Vatican for Catholics. The Asia Pacific Exchange and Cooperation Foundation plans to raise $3 billion at home and abroad to build temples, an airport, a highway, hotels, convention centres and a Buddhist university in the town of Lumbini, about 171 km (107 miles) southwest of Nepal’s capital Kathmandu. On National Tourism Day, which falls on Thursday this year, tourists will get half-price tickets for all scenic spots in north China's Shanxi province, according to the provincial tourism bureau. In the island province of Hainan, free tickets and discount coupons will be distributed around the island's west coast, and all tourists taking public transportation from Thursday to Saturday will get half-price tickets for the Li and Miao ethnic groups' cultural tourism zone. Annapurna Region

This is one of the classic and most rewarding treks in Nepal. The southern slopes of Manaslu and Annapurna range are heavily settled and formet, except the higher reagion which support thick forest of rhododendron and fir most of the trives inhabiting this area are Gurungs, Magars, Chhetris and Newars.

As on turn westwards into the Manang valley and into the rain shadow of the Annapurna ranges dramatic changes occur. Though, there are small fields supporting some crops of millet and wheat, and small flocks of sheep and goats, the Manang tribes are traditionally a trading race, they also Tibetan by origin and Buddhist by religion, and their architecture and life-styles is quite different to those tribes on the southern slopes.

Thakali and Mustang tribes control the busy trading and pilgrimage trail along the Kali Gandaki, until move through the gap between Dhaulagiri and Annapurna into the wetter zones, where one can meet Gurungs and Magars again. On the whole trek there in not one day during which one does not have magnificent views of all the ranges.
