Overview

The Sun Koshi is the longest trip in river miles offered in Nepal and is rated as one of the top ten river expeditions in the world.

Starting near the Tibetan border and draining off the Eastern Himalayas all the way to the sacred Ganges River in India, this river offers big volume whitewater. A journey down this “river of gold” impresses any rafting or kayaking enthusiast with relaxing canyons, refreshing waterfalls, bat caves, interesting temples, beautiful white sandy beaches for setting up camp and of course a great variety of whitewater.

Outline Itinerary

Day 1: Drive to Dolalghat starting point of Sun Koshi rafting.
Day 2: After the breakfast pack up the gears and start rolling down.
Day 3: After sometimes paddling join a Likhu Khola, class 3+ rapid.
Day 4: This day starts with several classes 3+ rapid
Day 5-8: Full Day Rafting
Day 9: The last stretch of river which brings you to the last class 4+ Big Dipper is a series of huge standing waves.

Day 01 Drive to Dolalghat starting point of Sun Koshi rafting.
Upon arrival at sun Kosi, we unload gears, lunch will be served and your expedition leader will brief you about a full safety while in rafting. The big rapid you will encounter on that day is of class 4+ rapid “Rotten Cave”. We will choose our beach campsite and dinner will be served with self fun filled evening.

Day 02 After the breakfast pack up the gears and start rolling down.
Today you will encounter a big class 4+ rapid “Meat grinder”. It is fairly straight run down the center avoiding holes left and right. A few meters below here the Tama Kosi River joins the Sun Kosi on the left. We camp here and enjoy the night.

Day 03 After sometimes paddling join a Likhu Khola, class 3+ rapid.
Pre-Anxiety soon followed by a long class 4 rapid High Anxiety with a large hole on the left halfway down and a series of holes at the bottom. Float a while and then camp.

Day 04 This day starts with several classes 3+ rapids
Then a quick stop for refreshment with local Bazar. Then prepare for a big and interesting one Harkapur 2 and 3 which is the hardest rapid on the trip, should be carefully scouted. Camp

Day 05 Full Day Rafting
Some km below Harkapur, Dudh Kosi River joins the Sun Kosi from the left. And today will be an easy paddling.

Day 06 Full Day Rafting
Today is another adventurous day with an encounter most of the grade 4+ rapids – you are straight into good exciting rapid “Rhino Rock” which is a grade 4+ followed by “Jungle Corridor” a kilometer of continuous white water. Waterfalls cascade on both sides of the river. One waterfall makes a great spot for a team shower. Camp

Day 07 Full Day Rafting
Today you will have some little excitement with wave and if you are interested you can try kayaking where our experts will teach you the basic skills needed to maneuver the boats or learn the Eskimo roll.

Day 08 The last stretch of river which brings you to the last class 4+ Big Dipper is a series of huge standing waves.
A few kilometer later Big Arun and Tamur rivers join together and form the Sapta Kosi. Then you float along on the powerful current, the hills dramatically give way to totally flat. This is the end of a classic and memorable river journey. We will be at out last pint at around 2 pm and have a lunch and pack the gear and then Drive to Kathmnadu.

Cancellation Policy

If participants wish to cancel for any reason, the following penalties apply:

30 days or more prior to departure 25% penalty
15 – 29 days prior to departure 50% penalty
2 – 14 days prior to departure 75% penalty
less than 48 hours prior to departure 100% penalty – zero refund

Cancellation due to illness such as travelers’ diarrhea is not considered an emergency and full penalties will apply. Under no circumstances will refunds or transfers be considered if participants fail to show up at departure point or if participants voluntarily (or involuntarily) leave a trip prematurely. Trip cancellation & interruption insurance is recommended.
